Genetically modified crops regulation requires use of molecular techniques and the conventional seed testing labs lack such testing facilities.
Considering the importance of quality seed availability the AP state Department of Agriculture established 1st Quality Control Laboratory in India to test Seeds using DNA technology in year 2006 by name “DNA Fingerprinting & Transgenic Crops Monitoring Laboratory” at Hyderabad and the lab been shifted to Guntur, Amaravati in year 2015. The lab carries out advanced tests like ELISA Test, GMO Test, Varietal Genuineness, Genetic purity, Event Confirmation and Transgene Detection test on seeds and standing crops.
The primary objective of this laboratory is to assure the Cultivator of a continuous supply of good quality planting seed. The following are the activities of the Lab
